After my fraught experiment with a three-colour lino print, I decided to soothe myself by returning to the simplicity of a one-colour version.
Based on a photo I took while my son and I were walking through the bush near our house, I first did a sketch in Procreate on my iPad:

I took extra care to correct several mistakes from my multi-colour experiment.
First, I printed the illustration out, remembering to flip it. I then transferred it to a lino block I bought in Japan (no Ezy Carve block this time!) using white graphite paper, which worked perfectly:

I set up a simple jig again, but this time I taped the paper to the cutting mat for extra stability. Plus, only having one block to work with meant there was no registration to contend with.

Also, the relative thinness of the lino compared to the Ezy Carve block, and the forgiving nature of a single colour, allowed for a much simpler printing experience.

But, I still haven’t mastered ink volume (or consistency). Something to practice next time!
