Sketching Mumbai

Some sketches from a recent trip to Mumbai, India.

I packed my sketching supplies for the trip to WordCamp Asia in Mumbai, India, excited for the opportunity to get more practice sketching street scenes.

As expected, the streets were chaotic, but I managed to snap some inspiration pictures from the back seat of a Uber, pushing its way through gridlocked traffic as scooters and tuk tuks zoomed past.

I also walked around some of the main tourist attractions, admiring the juxtaposition of architectural styles.

Away from the hustle of the city streets, I enjoyed sitting down to a variety of diverse and flavourful vegetarian food. Everything I ate was so delicious, and I delighted in the small touches, like a plate full of interesting condiments.

There was so much to sketch in Mumbai, and I can’t wait to return some day to sketch more.

It was the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya museum, closed, viewed through the fence. 😀

As for food, I loved the masala dosa I had every day for breakfast. I also loved the variety of different breads. The curries were also delicious. Basically, everything!

Ah yes, masala dosa is a “comfort food” and the default breakfast choice of many. It’s originally south Indian, but you get it everywhere in India now. If you ever do, the best dosa you’ll have is the Davangere benne dose, in Davangere, in the state of Karnataka. You gotta try ghee pudi idlis too.

There’s a delicious non-vegetarian food to be had too if you have that. Almost each state has something special to offer.

Maybe on your next trip! If you’d like reccos, feel free to ask me
