My graphic designer dad worked from home for most of my life. I was lucky enough to have access to photography equipment, lightboxes, art supplies, a darkroom, and later, computers.

Being surrounded by these tools exposed me to so much creative potential. I wound film by hand and learned about aperture and f-stops. I mixed chemicals and set timers to make contact sheets, as my eyes adjusted to the darkroom’s dim red light. When digital cameras became affordable (though still expensive!), my dad and I were first in line to buy them, and I learned the basics of Photoshop from the earliest versions.

I’ve never stopped being entranced by the magic of photography. When I see something remarkable, I have an impulse to capture it. And when I take a walk with my camera, I enjoy slowing down and taking the time to notice my surroundings.
